Fitastic Families
The incidence of childhood obesity is three times greater than it was twenty years ago. With the rise in childhood obesity, the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure increases. Childhood obesity is an epidemic and we as health care professionals and parents have to take charge.
We have designed the Fitastic Families program in order to offer high quality family wellness services to the community. The program is a collaboration of a nutritionist/dietician, the child's primary care physician, a psychologist, and exercise physiologist/ physical therapist. The general outline of the program is listed below.
The Fitastic Families Program
The program consists of two programs.
Program 1 – Management
Diagnostics taken prior to the start of the program and after 6 months. These include – blood tests, BMI, heart rate, and blood pressure
Nutrition/dietary consult – 2 initial visits, then weekly visits for 5 weeks, and check up appointments at 3 months and 6 months (total of 9 visits)
Exercise/ fun activity – 2 times per week for 8 weeks (total of 16 sessions)
Psychology sessions – 2 visits
Education on healthy snack choices, activity, and home programming
Patient goals reviewed at each visit
The visits are a mix of individual and group sessions. During some sessions the parents and kids will be together, and for some they will be separated
Program 2 - Maintenance
Family group exercise sessions offered, including taekwondo, kick boxing, pilates, and yoga
Family oriented sessions with child care provided (parents and their children will exercise together)
Priced separately from program 1
Suggested to start immediately following the 8 weeks of exercise in program 1
